If anyone can spare a 2 Litre pop bottle so that we could make some rain gauges that would be great. Also grade six students you will need your protractor very shortly for measuring angles.
DPA started our day today. We then did our final weather check. The choices for the literature circles were introduced and then the students had time to finish their opinion piece on whether people should make New Year’s Resolutions. (Due Thursday) We had a lock down drill and read aloud before recess. After recess, we looked at the difference between weather and climate. We read an article about predicting the weather and then we had a discussion about what it is they think of when they hear the word clouds. After lunch, we read the story of Sir Cumference and the Isle of Immeter. We did a few area and perimeter questions together and then started to take a look at the metric system. I introduced King Henry Danced Merrily Down Centre Main as a way of introducing the relationship between the various units. (Kilo, Hecto, Deka, Metre, Deci, Centi, Milli) We ended the day with the students having time to come up with their motto and national anthem for their country. (That means that for next Monday they should have their name, passport, flag, motto and anthem ready to go!)
