An assembly started the day today for the kids. When they finished at the assembly we went for a preview of the book fair. After recess, in Buddies, we read the story Peace by Wendy Anderson Halperin. What a fantastic story! I then showed them pictures of the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima. We also talked about the Sadako statue in the Peace Garden in Seattle. I think that some students are inspired to make a thousand paper cranes and send them to Hiroshima. We ended our time with the students listening to peaceful music. Some students continued to make cranes while others decided to draw. My message to the students was to do something peaceful this weekend. After lunch, we had a visit from students explaining the Purdy’s sale and then we did our appreciation circle. We ended our day with maker space and reading time.
